11th Hour Volunteers

11th Hour Volunteers are End of Life Doulas who have received additional training to care for both patients and families during the emotional time at a patient’s end of life.

11th Hour Volunteers are taught to recognize end of life signs and how to provide comfort to the patient. Volunteers provide a calm and quiet presence for patients who may be alone or for families wanting support. 11th hours tasks may include basic patient care, holding a hand, praying, singing, reading verses, or simply being present. Volunteers may also assist the family by comforting loved ones, answering phones or doors, making coffee, food, or drinks.

11th Hour Volunteers complete the basic patient care training at Hope. After six months, volunteers may then take End of Life Doula Training to become 11th Hour Volunteers.
